Trashy Fashion – Turning Trash in Fashion

I have a hard time throwing out things that I think I can turn into something fabulous. Why not give an item a second life, decrease what we are throwing in our landfills and upcycle it into something beautiful and wearable.

My youngest has a tendency to blow through shoes in just a month or two. Not sure what she does exactly, but all her shoes end up with holes in the toe.  I was about to throw these sweet little flats in the garbage because her toe was sticking out of the end, until the bling caught my eye (bling ALWAYS catches my eye).

So I decided to cut off the chain link crystals, clean them up and set them aside until inspiration struck.  It didn’t take long. I realized that the little loops at the end of the chain were just the right size for the Wax Cotton Cord we use in our Adjustable String Friendship Bracelet class.  Bingo!

All I did was thread the Wax Cotton Cord through the hole and double it over. So I essentially had 2 pieces of cord coming from one loop.  I then just knotted the cord just like we teach in the class when attaching the cord to a ring or circle connector.

Then, I used our method for creating an adjustable clasp with another piece of Wax Cotton Cord and added our cube beads to each of the tales (8 in total). Done!

I love that instead of throwing this little piece in the garbage I created something new and beautiful.  And someone even asked to buy it off my wrist today!

So, take a look around your house today and see what kind of trash you can turn into fashion! Leave us a comment and tell us if you are into Trashy Fashion. We would love to hear your ideas and what you have created. Or better yet, send us a photo and we will feature you on our blog or facebook page!

Accessorize Your Accessories!

Our Molly O Ambassadors have been hard at work creating new designs and testing out supplies.  I just love the look and feel they came up with for our Wrap Bracelets!

Often when you are creating accessories, you keep it simple so that you don’t get that craft store look.  But, sometimes adding just a small accessory, like a charm to your new design kicks it up another level.

Look at this gorgeous wrap bracelet by our Ambassador, Naesa.  Instead of just creating a triple wrap bracelet using our Gray Wrap Bracelet Kit, which is beautiful on its own, she added a sterling silver Bali bead charm. I think it changes the look of the bracelet and truly reflects her personality.

Here is another great design by our Ambassador, Dana.  Just a simple sterling flower is a perfect compliment to the Shades of Purple Wrap Bracelet Kit she used.  It just screams Spring to me!

You can also customize your bracelet even further by stamping out a one-of-a-kind charm. By taking our Stamped Jewelry class, you can add personalized charms to almost anything.  And it doesn’t have to just be about your kid’s names. You could use words of inspiration, like our Ambassador Vivian did here……………

Or you could customize it for an activity or organization you are a part of.  This sorority bracelet is just fabulous.

Can you imagine making these for all your bridesmaids in your wedding colors with a charm that said “bridesmaid”? Or, stamp “be my bridesmaid” as a way to ask your wedding party to be a part of your big day.  What about Baseball Mom with a red and white bracelet, or Soccer Mom in Black and White.  The design ideas are endless!

Hunger Games Stamped Jewelry

I’d like to pretend that I made this Hunger Games stamped necklace for my tween daughter, and that I know nothing about the Hunger Games.  But my true confession is that I read all 3 books over spring break in 3 days {and loved them!}

I spent the weekend recreating all the Katniss hairstyles at the insistence of my daughter, so I thought I would surprise her with this little design when she got home from school. For the record, she wore the bun version of the braids today and looked absolutely adorable. I will have to add a video tutorial one of these days on how to create the different looks.

Although I designed this as a necklace, I think I will actually put it on a clip so she can hang it off her backpack.

Hunger Games Stamped Necklace

Using our economical base metal discs (I love my daughter, but I’m not going to hang sterling silver off her backpack) I stamped out the famous quote “May the odds be ever in your favor” on our 1 1/4″ and 7/8″ discs and then stacked them. I also added a swarovski crystal charm that changes color from yellow to orange and red in the sunlight. I thought it was the perfect touch for the “girl on fire.”

Stamped Jewelry doesn’t have to be just for moms. Create something unique for a tween, teen or a friend. Your favorite quotes from a book or movie or an inside joke. Use your creativity and design something special that is just for them.
